Swine Flu in Mexico and the U.S.

Dear valued Palace Resorts and/or Le Blanc Spa Resort guest,

Due to the recent outbreak of swine flu in Mexico and the U.S., Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort would like to assure our customers that each of our 13 resorts are taking important steps to ensure the highest safety for our guests and staff.

As of Saturday, April 25, we have requested that all employees with any flu symptoms to not report to work. In addition, general managers at all of our 12 Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort are closely monitoring our employees, and any that show symptoms of the flu are being sent home immediately.

As cleanliness is the most important step in preventing illnesses, Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort have always followed strict healthy safety policies for food preparation and supervised employees’ personal hygiene. These policies, followed on a daily basis, not only meet but exceed all government health safety requirements, including the use of gloves and surgical masks in our main cooking stations. Additionally, staff is required to follow surgical hand washing procedures, which are the same eight steps doctors follow before scrubbing for surgery. During this time of public health concern, Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort managers are closely monitoring compliance of all employees.

Customers should also be aware that eating pork is completely safe. Per the World Health Organization, “Swine flu has not been shown to be transmissible to people through eating properly handled and prepared pork (pig meat) or other products derived from pigs. The swine influenza virus is killed by cooking temperatures of 160°F/70°C, corresponding to the general guidance for the preparation of pork and other meat.”

In the event that a guest does exhibit flu-like symptoms, All  Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort locations in Mexico have doctors available 24 hours a day who can diagnose and treat symptoms as well as prescribe any necessary medication.

Dr. Marc Siegel, associate professor of Medicine, NYU Langone Medical Center and FOX News medical contributor, said, “The most powerful virus pushing out its tentacles is not flu but fear. We are afraid of what we don’t know and what we don’t understand. The best antidote for this kind of fear is the facts.” He went on to explain, “We should also be comforted by the time of the year. This is the end of the flu season, not the beginning. Flu viruses thrive in the low humidity of winter, not summer. Because the Palace Resorts destinations, Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and Riviera Nayarit, experience warm tropical weather year-round, these climates will act as a natural antidote for this flu virus.

Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort will allow reservations to be transferred to our Moon Palace Casino, Golf & Spa Resort in the Dominican Republic, or to postpone until a later date within 2009, all at no fee. The difference in price is being adjusted on a one to one basis.  In addition, many airlines have announced they will waive fees for guests to change scheduled flights to Mexico in the next few weeks.

As always, our guests’ safety and the highest service standards are top priorities at all Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resort. We value your support, and we will promptly address any of your further safety concerns.

Sincerely,
The Palace Resorts Management team
